Deleted Story From Team Member Hints FFVII Remake Part 3 Could Drop Sooner Than We Think

A voice rises—and everything changes.

The legendary Final Fantasy VII saga might be wrapping up its epic trilogy sooner than expected. A recent social media post suggests that Cloud and his companions could be making a comeback any day now.

Let’s not forget: between the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and Rebirth in 2024, fans had to endure nearly four long years of waiting. That delay was partly due to the project’s massive ambitions—and of course, the pandemic didn’t help. But signs now point to a different timeline for the trilogy’s final installment.

An Instagram post sets the internet ablaze

All it took was a fleeting Instagram story from Cody Christian, the iconic voice of Cloud Strife, to ignite the gaming community. In the now-vanished photo, the actor was seen inside a recording booth, captioned: “So happy to be back with my best buddy”, along with a small image of the legendary Cloud.

Since then, the story has been deleted, but a screenshot continues to circulate via a post on the ResetEra forum. That alone has been enough to spark the most optimistic theories about how far along the project might be.

Granted, Square Enix hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet, but this small leak raises some big questions. In the world of game development, voice recording sessions typically take place in the final stages of production, once scripts are locked and the risk of story leaks is minimal.

Fans caught between hype and caution

The fact that Cody Christian is already back in the studio opens up several possibilities:

Either way, Christian’s presence behind the mic in 2025 strongly hints that the adventures of Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and Aerith might be back on our consoles sooner than we think.

A world already waiting to be explored?

According to director Naoki Hamaguchi, a significant portion of the next game was already in motion during the development of Rebirth. The combat system—praised for striking the perfect balance between dynamic action and strategic play—only needs a few tweaks to reach its full potential. So it wouldn’t be surprising if the final chapter arrives sooner, building on the solid foundation already in place.

While we wait for an official announcement, fans can dive back into the earlier chapters or explore other titles from the franchise to tide them over. One thing’s for sure: the excitement for the return of Final Fantasy VII is already building—and the wait may soon be over.
